2017 LIST OF PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES AND METHODS

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods for 2017 that will come into effect on 1 Jan 2017. Highlights of the key changes to the 2017 Prohibited List are listed below for your information.

Substances And Methods Prohibited At All Times (In- And Out-Of-Competition)

PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES

2          S2: Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors, Related Substances and Mimetics

  • To extend the scope of Erythropoietic Stimulating Agents, GATA inhibitors (e.g. K-11706) and Transforming Growth Factor- β (TGF-β) inhibitors (e.g. sotatercept, luspatercept) were added.
  • Cobalt: It is re-iterated that vitamin B12, which contains cobalt, is not prohibited.

3          S3: Beta-2-Agonists

  • Inhaled Salbutamol: Dosing parameters were refined.

Maximum 1600 micrograms over 24 hours shouldnotbe administered at one time. Each dosage should not exceed 800 micrograms every 12 hours.

  • Inhaled Salmeterol: The maximum dosage was stated according to the manufacturers’ recommendations.

Maximum 200 micrograms over 24 hours.

PROHIBITED METHODS

4          M1: Manipulation of Blood and Blood Components

                Supplemental oxygen administered by inhalation, but not intravenously, is permitted.

5          S6: Stimulants

            Lisdexamfetamine was added to S6.a (Non-Specified Stimulants).

6          S7: Narcotics

            Nicomorphine was added.

MONITORING PROGRAM

7         WADA has a programme that monitors substances which are not on the Prohibited List to detect patterns of misuse in sport. The following were added to establish patterns of use:

  • Codeine
  • Concurrent use of multiple beta-2-agonists

8          We would like to take this opportunity to remind all carded athletes to check the status of their medication prescribed or bought over-the-counter at pharmacies in Singapore by using the online database “CheckDrugs” which is accessible from Anti-Doping Singapore’s (ADS) website at www.antidoping.org.sg.

9          Athletes who need to be prescribed medication or methods of treatment that are prohibited should apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) to ADS before using it.

10        A copy of the 2017 Prohibited List and the Summary of Major Modifications with Explanatory Notes are attached for your reference. The iPhone and iPad application for the 2017 Prohibited List, as well as the mobile site for other mobile devices will also be updated by WADA and available as of 1 Jan 2017.

11       NSAs’ are to convey the content of this email and the new List to all its athletes, coaches, team officials and other support personnel in your NSA.
