Dear all,
Over the past few weeks of the Premier League season, we have received a number of feedbacks and complaints from teams and members of the public with regards to violent behaviours displayed on court. Over the last weekend alone, a total of 5 red cards were issued to players from offences ranging from fighting to altercation happening on court.
One of the aims for this season is to ensure the safety of players involved in the field of play and respecting one another in the game hence SFA is disappointed with the number of disorderly incidents taking place at our league games. We would like to underline the importance of mutual respect, fair play and sportsmanship. SFA takes a zero-tolerance approach towards all acts of violence, which threaten the physical integrity of players and officials.
As such the disciplinary committee consisting of members from the Tournament Committee, Technical Officials Committee and High-Performance Committee have reviewed last weekend's unfortunate incidents and imposed further penalties to errant players. They will be looking closely at any future incidents that are flagged out and would not hesitate to take firm action against any offending players or officials.
All our matches are streamed live online and such behaviour on display does no good to the sports and is a very bad example for our next generation of floorballers. We do not want to fall back to our starting days at Tampines Sports Hall where matches end abruptly due to fights.
On the technical officials part, we have started to expand the pool of officials since the start of 2022; we continue to grow and ensure that they are updated with the new Rules of the Game and to be ready for challenging matches. 2-years of pandemic has led to a severe depletion of our seasoned officials. Our officials will apply the rule to keep the sports safe and continue to educate our players.
We hereby urge teams to feedback (to this email address) on any violent behaviour displayed on court so that the Disciplinary Committee can look into and enforce any necessary penalties. We strongly urge all to educate your players and officials on the importance of having a safe sports environment for floorball matches so that no player or game official should go into the game feeling insecure due to the perceived violence associated with the sport.
Let's all do better for the remaining season as a responsible community!
Regards,
SFA Tournament Committee
